  • How do I protect my pool during freezing temperatures?

If you winterized your pool you are in good shape. If you did not winterize and do not have freeze protection, make sure you are running 24 hours until the temperature rises above freezing.

  • How do I protect my pool during winter power outages?

Don't worry about anything underground or the pool itself. Pipes above ground can freeze, crack & burst when temperatures are below freezing (day and night) 2-3 days in a row.

In the event, you lose power and your pool isn't winterized, do the following:

    • Remove the cap from the bottom of the filter tank
    • Take the plug out of the pump to drain
    • Take the plug out of the heater (if applicable)
    • If you have a salt system, take the cell out of line
    • Loosen any unions you have in the plumbing
    • Drain the equipment, unplug the pump, and turn off breakers to prevent the equipment from turning on when power is restored.
  • The surface of my pool is frozen, what do I do?

You may be tempted to break up the ice on the surface of your frozen pool water, but doing so can cause damage to tile, liners, and surfaces.  The sharp edges can damage vinyl pool liners that could cost hundreds to repair or thousands to replace.  Having ice on the top of your pool is not harmful, so allow it to dissipate on its own.  If you need to clear the ice in front of the skimmer(s), you may pour hot water in front of them to melt the ice while not creating sharp edges thus minimizing potental damage.
